In a significant administrative move, the Maharashtra Home Department has orchestrated a sweeping reshuffle of senior police officers across the state. The transfer orders, affecting a total of 58 Indian Police Service (IPS) and Maharashtra State Police Service officers, come with notable promotions for 19 individuals.

The timing of these mass transfers aligns with the directives of the Election Commission (EC) in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Endorsed by the Police Establishment Board on Wednesday, these changes aim to streamline the state’s law enforcement apparatus and optimize operational effectiveness during the electoral process.

Among the key appointments, Pune City Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has ascended to the position of Director General of Police, assuming responsibility for the Home Guards. Meanwhile, Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar transitions to the role of police commissioner for Pune city, marking a significant shift in operational leadership.

Filling the vacancy left by Amitesh Kumar, Additional Director General of Police for Traffic, Ravindra Kumar Singhal, steps into the role of Nagpur Police Commissioner. This appointment underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring seamless traffic management and law enforcement in one of Maharashtra’s pivotal urban centers.

Furthermore, Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner Ajay Bansal embarks on a new assignment as Superintendent of Police in Jalna district, bringing his expertise and leadership to a region with unique law enforcement challenges. Similarly, Thane Police Joint Commissioner Datta Karale assumes the mantle of Inspector General of Police for the Nashik Range, contributing to the maintenance of law and order in the region.

In a noteworthy promotion, Deputy Inspector General of Police in Gadchiroli, Sandeep Patil, advances to the role of Special Inspector General of Police for Anti-Naxalite Operations. This elevation underscores the state’s continued vigilance and proactive measures in combating insurgency and maintaining security in vulnerable areas.

The reshuffling of senior police officers signifies the state government’s commitment to optimizing law enforcement capabilities and ensuring a robust security apparatus ahead of critical electoral proceedings. By strategically deploying experienced personnel and promoting talented individuals, Maharashtra aims to uphold the integrity of its democratic process and safeguard the interests of its citizens.
