Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has asked the health authorities of the flood hit districts to remain extra vigilant to prevent spread of communicable diseases after the floods. The minister interacted with the Health Officers of the six worst flood hit districts of the state.
Health Minister Rajesh Tope yesterday interacted with Surgeons and Health Officers of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts and asked them to be extra vigilant in this crucial phase after flood when there is a high probability of outbreak of various communicable diseases. He said detailed instructions were given to the health system to prevent the outbreak of diseases caused by contaminated water in which they have been asked to use bleaching powder, chlorine tablets and chlorine liquid for purification of wells in flooded areas. It has been advised that citizens walking on flood or rainwater should be given Leptospirosis Prevention Pills according to their risk classification.
Mr Tope said health check-up camps should be conducted in flood-prone areas and rain-fed settlements, and adequate stocks of medicines for communicable diseases as well as snake bites should be made available. The health minister also said that there should be a public awareness campaign to prevent the spread of other communicable diseases due to floods in the districts where the incidence of corona is high.
