The Maharashtra government extended full state honours to the late Manohar Joshi, former Lok Sabha Speaker and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, in Mumbai. Joshi, a towering figure in Maharashtra politics, passed away early Friday morning at the age of 86 at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, where he was admitted on February 21 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Manohar Joshi’s illustrious career spanned across various spheres of governance. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 and later as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004. Joshi also held the position of Member of the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2012 and served as the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises from 1999 to 2002.

Following his demise, tributes poured in from political leaders across the spectrum, reflecting on Joshi’s significant contributions to public service. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, highlighting Joshi’s dedication to the welfare of Maharashtra during his tenure as Chief Minister.
