As the Maharashtra assembly elections draw near, tensions are escalating within the political landscape, particularly between the Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has accused the BJP of employing a ‘use & throw’ policy aimed at sidelining Ajit Pawar to secure more seats in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Raut stated, “The BJP is attempting to keep Ajit Pawar away, which may help them win more seats.” He further asserted that the Shiv Sena leaders are complicit in this strategy, which he believes will ultimately backfire on the Eknath Shinde group.

Raut warned Shinde to be cautious, suggesting that he could be the next target of the BJP’s political maneuvering. The internal discord within the Mahayuti alliance has become increasingly apparent, particularly following separate meetings held by Home Minister Amit Shah with both Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar during the Ganpati festival in Mumbai. Reports indicate that Shah advised the coalition to manage its internal tensions privately.

Adding to the turmoil, Ajit Pawar notably skipped the inauguration event for Mumbai’s Coastal Road, where he did not accompany CM Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis during Shah’s visit to Ganpati pandals. Amidst this backdrop, Ajit Pawar has been actively campaigning across Maharashtra, with NCP supporters positioning him as a potential Chief Ministerial candidate.

In light of growing calls from party workers for a reconciliation with Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s uncle, the veteran leader reiterated their familial bond, stating, “We are together at home at least.” He emphasized that while they maintain a united front as a family, Ajit Pawar is leading a separate political party.

Sharad Pawar also expressed confidence in the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s ability to provide a progressive alternative to the electorate, noting, “Our observation is that the people of Maharashtra have made up their mind to give us (MVA) a chance in the ensuing elections.”

As the political landscape shifts, all eyes are on the alliances and strategies that will unfold leading up to the elections, with both the Mahayuti and MVA positioning themselves for an intense electoral battle.
