The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following his press conference in Maharashtra, where he targeted the MahaYuti government and the BJP-ruled Centre. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a scathing counterattack, labeling Gandhi’s remarks as “low-level” and referring to him as “Chhota Popat” (little parrot), a term attributed to the late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.
Patra mocked Gandhi’s press conference, claiming it lacked substance and only provided opportunities for amusement. He dismissed Gandhi’s slogan “Ek hai toh safe hai” as a misrepresentation of governance and accused the Congress of attempting to distract from its history of corruption. Referring to Congress’s tenure, Patra listed scams, including the 2G, Coalgate, and AgustaWestland scams, alleging the party looted the nation for decades.
Patra also criticized Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his recent remarks equating the BJP with poison, calling it an example of Congress’s “emergency mindset.” He accused Congress leaders of hypocrisy, pointing to Priyanka Gandhi’s alleged support from banned organizations while the party central leadership criticized nationalist outfits.
The BJP spokesperson predicted a decisive victory for the MahaYuti alliance in the November 23 assembly election results, suggesting the Congress would soon face widespread ridicule.
