In a significant move aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of Mumbai residents, the Maharashtra Congress has advocated for the full utilization of beds at Seven Hills Hospital by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). Currently, the hospital, which was previously operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, is only allocating 20 percent of its beds to individuals in need, despite now being under the complete control of MCGM.
The history of Seven Hills Hospital is rooted in its partnership with a private firm, wherein 20 percent of its beds were reserved for economically disadvantaged individuals. However, due to financial constraints and the inability to meet debt obligations, MCGM has assumed full control over the hospital.
In light of this development, the Maharashtra Congress has penned a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, emphasizing the urgent need to reallocate all beds at Seven Hills Hospital to benefit the city’s residents. The party contends that with MCGM now overseeing the hospital’s operations, it is imperative to maximize its capacity to serve the public interest.
