Two Maharashtra Soldiers Lose Lives in Uri Camp Tragedy
Maharashtra is mourning the loss of two Army personnel who died after an accidental grenade explosion at a military camp in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident claimed the lives of soldiers Vikram Chavan from Navi Mumbai and Arjun Jadhav from Satara district.
The blast reportedly occurred during a routine transfer of military equipment at the Kamalkote camp in the Uri area of Baramulla district. Both soldiers sustained serious injuries in the explosion and were immediately evacuated for medical treatment.
CM Fadnavis Expresses Grief
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid homage to the fallen soldiers through a message on social media, expressing solidarity with their families during the difficult time.
Remembering the two jawans, he said, “These two brave heroes made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. I pay heartfelt tribute to both these martyrs. We share in the grief of their families.”
The Chief Minister noted that Vikram Chavan hailed from Airoli in Navi Mumbai, while Arjun Jadhav belonged to Shahapur in Karad taluka of Satara district.
Injured Soldiers Succumbed at Military Hospital
According to officials, the accidental blast took place when a hand grenade detonated unexpectedly during standard operational procedures at the Army camp.
The injured soldiers were rushed to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital for urgent treatment. However, despite medical efforts, doctors declared both jawans dead upon arrival.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over their hometowns, where residents and local leaders have been paying tribute to the soldiers for their service to the nation.
Another Accidental Firing Incident Reported in Poonch
In a separate incident reported recently in Jammu and Kashmir, an Army soldier suffered injuries after his service rifle accidentally discharged while he was deployed in a forward area of Poonch district.
Officials said the incident occurred in the Bolnoi sector of Mendhar during the night. The injured soldier was evacuated and shifted to a hospital in Rajouri for treatment.
