A political controversy has intensified in Maharashtra after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut wrote to the Mumbai Police Commissioner alleging that a Shiv Sena MP made threatening remarks against protesters and party workers. The issue prompted a strong reaction from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured firm action under the law.
Speaking to reporters, CM Fadnavis said, “We will not allow anyone’s home to be blown up or anyone to be threatened in any manner. No one should be afraid of such threats.”
He further emphasized that law enforcement will not hesitate to act if any individual is found issuing threats, adding that police will take “appropriate and strict action” in accordance with legal provisions.
Raut’s Complaint Sparks Political Clash
The controversy began after Sanjay Raut sent a letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, alleging that Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil—now aligned with the Shinde faction after switching camps—had made violent remarks targeting protesters.
Raut stated that protests against rebel MPs have been growing across Maharashtra, describing the situation as a reaction to what he called a “betrayal” of voters and party workers.
He maintained that while citizens have a constitutional right to protest, he accused Patil of responding with intimidation rather than dialogue.
Alleged Remarks Under Scrutiny
In his complaint, Raut cited alleged statements attributed to Patil, including: “Do not mess with me. Before protesting against me, take life insurance. I will either send you to the crematorium or to the hospital.”
He also alleged that the MP claimed, “I have killed five people before,” and demanded a police investigation to verify the statement and its context.
Raut further accused Patil of allegedly threatening violent retaliation, including claims of attacking protesters and using bombs if demonstrations continued.
Deepening Rift in Maharashtra Politics
The controversy has widened the political divide between Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Eknath Shinde-led faction. The split has already been marked by multiple defections, including six MPs shifting allegiance, further intensifying tensions within Maharashtra’s political landscape.
