Mumbai: Fresh from winning the trust vote on the floor of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reiterated that his government is committed towards welfare of all sections of society.
Speaking to newspersons after winning the trust vote at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said his government’s agenda will be full-fledged development of Maharashtra by speeding up pending projects across all the sectors. He added that his vision is to make the state free of farmers’ suicide. Assuring that Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol will soon be reduced, the Chief Minister said a decision in this regard will be announced after discussion in the cabinet.
When asked about cabinet formation, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the same will be discussed with the BJP and finalised at the earliest. Asked whether disqualification notices will be issued to 15 MLAs (Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena faction) who voted against the whip in today’s trust vote, Shinde said that action will be initiated as per law.
Replying to a query on Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar’s comment, that the new government will not last beyond six months, the Chief Minister exuded confidence that not only will the government complete the remaining tenure but will also get re-elected with over 200 MLAs in the 2024 assembly polls.
Asked about the Amravati chemist Umesh Kolhe’s murder, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the National Investigating Agency (NIA) is doing its job while the state machinery and police authorities have been directed to ensure there is no repeat of such incidents.
Explaining the rationale behind why a trust vote was taken up in respect of the newly elected Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the opposition had given a notice for the same within minutes of Rahul Narvekar’s election as the Speaker. He said the notice was given in an effort to avoid disqualification proceedings of MLAs who voted against the Shiv Sena’s official whip. With the no-confidence motion being defeated, appropriate action can now be taken against erring MLAs for defying the party whip.
