Trends indicate that the Congress’ Praniti Shinde, the daughter of former Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, is trailing in the Solapur City Central Assembly segmentwhich is witnessing a four-way electoral contest.
Ms. Shinde, who is the sitting MLA and is seeking re-election for the third time, is facing stiff opposition from the CPI (Marxist)’s Narasayya Adam, the Shiv Sena’s Dilip Mane and the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Rahul Sarvgod.
In the 2014 election, Ms. Shinde had won by a slender margin of 9,000 votes by defeating the the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM)’s Taufeek Sheikh.
In recent times, steady inroads by the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) and the AIMIM have posed a serious threat to the Shinde’s hold over the segment.
The Shinde family’s influence here has been seriously undercut with Dalit and Muslim voters gravitating towards the VBA and the AIMIM in recent times. This was reflected in Mr. Shinde’s defeat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.
Congress candidate from Solapur Central Praniti Shinde, the daughter of former Home Minister and Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde, is trailing.
