Patna: As the NDA maintains a decisive lead in the Bihar Election 2025, senior Congress leader and the party’s Observer for the state, Ashok Gehlot, launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission, alleging widespread irregularities and misuse of money during the polls.
Speaking to the media as counting trends showed the Mahagathbandhan slipping far behind, Gehlot expressed strong disappointment with the outcome.
“Bihar results are disappointing, there is no doubt about it,” he said, blaming the alleged distribution of cash and the inaction of authorities for the alliance’s poor performance.
Gehlot claimed that large-scale cash handouts influenced voters, particularly women.
“The kind of atmosphere I saw there – women were given Rs 10,000 each; it was being given even when the Election Campaign was ongoing… EC remained a mute spectator. Why did it not stop this? It should have, but it didn’t,” he alleged.
He further backed Rahul Gandhi’s accusation of foul play, reiterating that vote manipulation may have taken place.
“This means that what Rahul Gandhi said for Vote Chori, this is what Vote Chori is. If fair elections are not held, if rigging takes place, if booth capturing takes place or there is cheating and money is being distributed – EC didn’t take any action, they were colluding with the ruling party.”
The former Rajasthan Chief Minister also warned that the growing influence of money power poses a danger to India’s democratic framework.
“Money is being misused these days. In Maharashtra, Crores of Rupees were given to candidates. Congress and RJD don’t have money. So, a threat looms over democracy,” he said.
Despite conceding that the NDA is poised to return to power, Gehlot emphasised that the Congress’ ideology still holds relevance for the nation.
“Winning election is one thing, NDA will win and form the Govt. Modi ji became the PM thrice but I believe that it is the Congress ideology which is in interest of the nation. The country needs Congress,” he stated.
He also targeted the ruling alliance over alleged financial advantages gained through electoral bonds.
“They (NDA) gathered money through electoral bonds…” he added.
