Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved an urgent financial package of Rs 11,500 crores for the losses incurred due to the heavy rains and floods in various parts of the state last month.
Disclosing this to newspersons after attending the cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state Relief and Rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar disclosed that those whose houses have been damaged completely will be given financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Similarly, those houses that have suffered 50 per cent damage will be given Rs 50,000, whereas, Rs 25,000 to those who have suffered 25 per cent damage and Rs 15,000 for those whose houses have suffered minor damages in the recent heavy rains and floods in the state.
Wadettiwar stated that the government going beyond the NDRF criteria, the flood-affected people would be given financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each. Similarly, those shop owners who have suffered damages to their shops will be given Rs 50,000 each. With regards to the owners of the roadside small joints which have suffered damages will be given Rs 10,000 each.
He said that as many as 30 thousand hectares of agricultural land was damaged due to the floods across the state.
His cabinet colleague Nawab Malik said that the cabinet has also decided to build houses through the state-owned Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) for the villagers of landslide-hit Taliye village in Raigad’s Mahad taluka and other four neighbouring settlements. He said the cost of the house will be about Rs 4.5 lakhs.
