Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called for exercising more caution after at least eight people from the state have been confirmed to have contracted the more easily communicable UK strain of COVID-19.
Chairing a meeting to review preparations for vaccine rollout, Thackeray said it is essential to remain alert to the inflow of passengers from the United Kingdom who might have alighted at airports outside Maharashtra but are travelling to the state for various reasons.
He stated that many passengers coming from UK have deplaned at airports in other states and are now travelling domestically and coming to Maharashtra. Thackeray said that it is proving difficult to track such people. He further demanded that the Centre must ensure that passengers are quarantined at all airports so as to minimise the risk of spread of infection.
Talking about vaccination, the Chief Minister directed health officials to be prepared for any emergency in case a person experiences some adverse effect of the vaccine.
