Madurai-Bound IndiGo Flight Returns to Chennai Mid-Air After Technical Snag; All Passengers Safe

Chennai: An IndiGo flight en route to Madurai from Chennai was forced to make an emergency return on Friday after developing a technical snag mid-air, barely 30 minutes after takeoff. The aircraft, carrying 68 passengers, landed safely back at Chennai International Airport, and no injuries have been reported.

According to airport sources, the flight crew identified a potential issue with the aircraft’s systems and immediately sought clearance from Air Traffic Control (ATC) to return. “The pilot acted swiftly and followed standard safety procedures,” an official said. “All 68 passengers were deboarded safely and alternate arrangements are being made.”

As of now, IndiGo has not issued an official statement regarding the nature of the fault or the status of the flight’s replacement.

The incident adds to a series of recent technical issues reported by the airline. On Thursday, two IndiGo flights originating from Kolkata also experienced technical snags, causing delays and operational setbacks.

In the first incident, flight 6E 487 to Silchar had to return to the ramp shortly after pushback due to a malfunction. The flight was carrying 155 passengers, who were later accommodated on another aircraft.

In the second case, flight 6E 6068 bound for Agartala developed a technical glitch on the runway moments before takeoff and was pulled back for inspection. Engineers were deployed immediately, and passengers were kept on standby while the airline initiated alternative travel arrangements. While all passengers on the affected flights are reported to be safe, the repeated technical snags have raised concerns about maintenance protocols, prompting calls for more transparency from the airline and scrutiny by aviation authorities.
