Household cooking gas has become more expensive across India after the government approved a price revision for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders starting Saturday, March 7.
The price of the standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹60 nationwide, while the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder used by businesses has become costlier by ₹115. The revision affects both household consumers and commercial establishments such as restaurants, hotels and small food outlets that depend heavily on LPG for daily operations.
New LPG Prices in Major Cities
Following the latest revision, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has increased in major metro cities.
In Delhi, the price has risen from ₹853 to ₹913.
In Mumbai, the cost has increased from ₹852.50 to ₹912.50.
In Chennai, the cylinder price has gone up from ₹868.50 to ₹928.50.
In Kolkata, the price has also been revised upward, crossing the ₹900 mark after the increase.
The revised rates have come into effect immediately and will apply to all LPG distributors across the country.
Commercial Cylinders Also Become Costlier
Businesses that rely on commercial LPG cylinders will also face higher operating costs after the price hike.
In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased from ₹1,768.50 to ₹1,883.
In Mumbai, the new rate is ₹1,835 compared with ₹1,720.50 earlier.
In Kolkata, the cylinder now costs around ₹1,990, while in Chennai the price has reached ₹2,043.50.
Industry experts say the rise could slightly increase costs for food outlets and small commercial establishments that depend on LPG for cooking.
First Domestic LPG Price Change Since April 2025
This is the first increase in domestic LPG prices since April 2025, when the price in Delhi had been fixed at ₹853 for a non-subsidised cylinder. The latest revision marks a significant jump for households after nearly a year of stable prices.
Energy analysts note that LPG price adjustments generally depend on international fuel costs, supply conditions and currency movements.
Government Says Fuel Supply Is Stable
Despite the price hike, the government has assured citizens that fuel availability remains stable in the country.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that India currently has adequate energy supplies and consumers should not worry about shortages.
“Our priority is to ensure the availability of affordable and sustainable fuel for our citizens. There is no shortage of energy in India,” he said.
Indian Oil Dismisses Fuel Shortage Rumours
Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation also rejected rumours circulating on social media about shortages of petrol and diesel.
The company said India’s fuel stocks are sufficient and the supply network is operating normally. Officials urged citizens not to panic and to rely only on official information regarding fuel availability.
India Monitoring Global Energy Situation
Government sources also said authorities are closely monitoring global energy supply routes, including concerns about disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Officials noted that India has diversified its crude oil imports in recent years, including increased purchases from Russia.
According to officials, India currently has adequate reserves of crude oil, petroleum products and LPG to meet domestic demand, and additional supplies can be arranged if required.
