In a significant political development, Unmesh Patil, the sitting MP representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jalgaon Lok Sabha constituency, has officially joined the Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction (UBT Shivsena). The move comes amid discontentment within the BJP ranks over the allocation of Lok Sabha tickets.

Patil’s decision to switch allegiance to the Thackeray group was finalized today during a meeting at Matoshree, where party chief Uddhav Thackeray and MP Sanjay Raut were present to welcome him into the party fold. Patil’s dissatisfaction with BJP’s decision to field Smita Wagh as the candidate from Jalgaon prompted his move to join the Shiv Sena.

Having arrived in Mumbai directly on Tuesday, Unmesh Patil held discussions with MP Sanjay Raut before meeting party chief Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree. Following these deliberations, Patil’s transition to the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena was confirmed, with his official induction into the party taking place today.

Expressing his sentiments after joining Shiv Sena, Unmesh Patil expressed disillusionment with the BJP, citing a lack of recognition for his contributions. He emphasized his alignment with the values of loyalty and expressed gratitude towards Shiv Sena for embracing him.

Sanjay Raut, while addressing the media, acknowledged Patil’s decision and highlighted the support he garnered from activists, including Karan Pawar, who have also joined Shiv Sena. Raut emphasized the significance of Patil’s entry into Shiv Sena, asserting confidence in the party’s prospects in the upcoming Jalgaon election.

Uddhav Thackeray extended a warm welcome to Patil and others who joined Shiv Sena, emphasizing their shared values and criticizing BJP’s “use and throw away” approach. Thackeray expressed optimism about Shiv Sena’s prospects in Jalgaon, heralding a new era for the constituency.

Unmesh Patil’s defection underscores the fissures within BJP and Shiv Sena’s efforts to consolidate support ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. His transition to Shiv Sena reflects broader shifts in Maharashtra’s political landscape, setting the stage for intensified competition in the upcoming polls.
