Amidst a backdrop of escalating tensions between Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee and the Congress and CPI(M), a significant wave of Left workers and supporters rallied behind Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which made its reentry into West Bengal on Wednesday.

Mohammed Salim, the CPI(M) state secretary, along with other party leaders, including central committee member Sujan Chakraborty, met Rahul Gandhi in Raghunathganj. Following the 45-minute-long meeting, Salim emphasized that the Left had joined the Congress Yatra to unite against the RSS-BJP and combat injustice.

Expressing solidarity with Rahul Gandhi’s initiative, Salim stated, “We are fighting against the RSS-BJP. Rahul Gandhi also came out with Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to combat RSS-BJP. We are fighting to save democracy in India. We came here to show our solidarity to this Yatra.”

Salim further addressed Mamata Banerjee’s stance towards the opposition INDIA bloc, highlighting her eagerness to dissociate from it. He remarked, “A lot of people boarded a train from the originating station, but one cannot say who will continue to be part of the fight against the BJP and who deboards en route. Mamata Banerjee now wants to get down from the train and we welcome it.”

In response to Mamata Banerjee’s accusations of the CPI(M) attempting to control the opposition bloc’s agenda, Salim countered, emphasizing the strength and scope of the Congress as a pan-India party. He questioned Mamata’s assertions, stating, “The Congress is a very big pan-India party. Does CPI(M) have such strength? But still, she is saying that CPI(M) is controlling the Congress.”

Salim reiterated the fundamental divide within the country, framing the current political landscape as a struggle between justice and injustice. He reaffirmed the CPI(M)’s commitment to joining forces in the fight against injustice, underscoring the significance of unity in confronting prevailing challenges.

As tensions simmer between political factions, the convergence of Left support with Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra signals a shifting dynamic within the opposition landscape, setting the stage for heightened political maneuvering in the days to come.
