Mumbai: In a significant push towards globalizing education and fostering innovation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the MPSTME and NMIMS buildings and performed the bhoomipujan of SVKM’s new educational complex in Vile Parle on Friday.

Speaking at the event, CM Fadnavis highlighted the remarkable journey of NMIMS University under the leadership of its Chancellor Amrish Patel. “NMIMS has achieved top rankings across disciplines because Dr. Amrish Patel never compromised on values while building this institution. Today, it is counted among India’s most prestigious universities,” he said.

India Opens Doors to World-Class Universities

Referring to the transformational scope of the National Education Policy (NEP), CM Fadnavis announced that Letters of Intent (LOIs) were issued to five international universities to establish campuses at EduCity in Navi Mumbai. “Soon, five more global institutions will follow, creating a comprehensive educational hub. This will provide Indian students access to global-quality education at affordable rates—without the need to go abroad,” he added. He further noted the initiative would save valuable foreign exchange and ensure students can acquire international-level education right here in India.

Global Competition to Drive Indian Institutions Forward

Underscoring the importance of competitive growth, the Chief Minister stated, “Progress thrives on competition. NEP has introduced a new wave of competition—not within the country, but with top foreign institutions now entering India. In 2–3 years, there will be meaningful comparisons between them and Indian universities, further pushing excellence.”

Education Must Match the Pace of Technology

“Industries in the 21st century don’t follow resources alone; they move where innovation and skilled talent exist. To make India the third and eventually the second-largest economy, we must focus on building world-class human capital,” CM Fadnavis said.

He stressed that the NEP has made India’s education system dynamic, enabling flexible, multidisciplinary, and tech-oriented learning structures. “Earlier, technology evolved every seven years, then every three. With Artificial Intelligence, we now see new tech every three months. Our education must keep pace. That’s why the mantra for today is: Learn, Unlearn, and Relearn,” he said.

Maharashtra Leads the Startup Ecosystem

The Chief Minister also emphasized Maharashtra’s leadership in India’s startup landscape. “Mumbai and Maharashtra are the startup capital of the country. As per the Startup India report, the state ranks first in both the number of startups and investment received,” he noted.

Fadnavis highlighted the government’s proactive efforts such as the establishment of a dedicated Fund of Funds to support startup ventures. “Hundreds of startups have taken shape because of this initiative. Now, we must ensure that educational institutions and the government together provide a nurturing ecosystem. We must build not just job seekers, but job creators,” he said.

Dignitaries Present

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, NMIMS Chancellor Dr. Amrish Patel, SVKM President Bhupesh Patel, and local MLAs including Amrishbhai Patel, Ameet Satam, and Parag Alavani.
