Lathi-Charge on Jan Suraaj Workers in Patna as Prashant Kishor’s March to Bihar Assembly Sparks Clash

Patna: The political climate in Bihar turned volatile on the third day of the monsoon session as the police used force to disperse members of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, who were attempting to march towards the Bihar Assembly.

The protest was led by political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor, who had called for a massive Vidhan Sabha gherao over unemployment, corruption in the land survey process, and denial of land rights to the poor. According to party sources, over one crore signatures were collected from citizens across the state to underline public support for the issues being raised.

Thousands of Jan Suraaj supporters converged in Patna early Wednesday and began marching from Chitkohra Golambar towards the Assembly. As they neared the security cordon, the situation turned tense. Despite repeated warnings, protesters reportedly attempted to breach police barricades.

In response, the police launched a lathi-charge to contain the crowd. Several party workers sustained injuries during the clash. Authorities claimed the action was necessary to maintain law and order and to prevent any breach of security near the Assembly.

Inside the Vidhan Sabha, the RJD-led opposition was already creating a storm over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged failures in maintaining law and order.

Speaking to the media later in the day, Prashant Kishor said, “This government has no answers to the real issues – be it employment, land ownership, or the widespread corruption in land surveys. Today’s action by the police shows how far this administration will go to suppress the voices of the people.”

He also vowed to intensify the campaign across the state, saying, “We are not afraid of lathis. This movement will continue until the people of Bihar get justice.”
