Fresh Trouble for Abhishek Banerjee? KMC Issues Notice Over Alleged Illegal Construction at Kolkata Properties

TMC Leader Faces New Scrutiny Amid Rising Political Heat in West Bengal

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has come under fresh administrative scrutiny after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation issued notices regarding alleged unauthorised construction at properties linked to him in South Kolkata.

The civic action comes at a politically sensitive time in West Bengal and adds to the mounting pressure on the senior TMC leader following recent controversy surrounding alleged inflammatory remarks.

KMC Flags Alleged Deviations in Building Plans

According to municipal notices issued under Section 401 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980, authorities have sought clarification regarding construction activities at properties located on Harish Mukherjee Road and Kalighat Road.

The notices reportedly relate to Abhishek Banerjee’s residence at 188A Harish Mukherjee Road and adjoining premises nearby.

Municipal officials have asked property owners to provide approved building plans and explain whether all construction work complied with civic regulations and sanctioned designs.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation also sought details regarding any additional or allegedly unauthorised structures present on the premises.

Seven-Day Deadline Issued by Civic Authorities

As part of the notice, the civic body reportedly directed the concerned parties to remove portions identified as unauthorised within seven days.

Authorities warned that failure to comply could result in demolition action being carried out directly by the Municipal Corporation, with the expenses later recovered from the owners or occupants responsible for the construction.

The notice further asked for submission of “as-built” structural drawings showing details of lifts, escalators and usage patterns within the buildings.

Political Tensions Escalate Ahead of Bengal Transition Debate

The latest development has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, where discussions around future leadership dynamics within the ruling Trinamool Congress continue to grow.

The civic notices surfaced only days after reports emerged about a case allegedly being registered against Abhishek Banerjee in connection with a controversial speech.

Political observers believe the back-to-back controversies could further sharpen the confrontation between the ruling TMC and the BJP in the state.

Suvendu Adhikari Targets TMC Leadership

Adding to the political attack, senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari publicly named several individuals whom he accused of possessing large-scale illegal assets and properties.

During a public statement, Adhikari alleged that multiple properties connected to politically influential individuals were under investigation. He claimed Abhishek Banerjee was among those linked to several properties currently facing scrutiny.

“I have told the municipal affairs secretary and KMC commissioner about 4 names,” Adhikari said while accusing political figures of corruption and illegal wealth accumulation.

The BJP leader further claimed that future legal action could be initiated if investigations establish wrongdoing.

No Official Response Yet From Abhishek Banerjee

As of now, there has been no detailed public response from Abhishek Banerjee or the Trinamool Congress regarding the allegations mentioned in the civic notices.

The controversy is expected to trigger sharp political reactions in the coming days as both the TMC and BJP prepare for intensified political battles ahead of future electoral contests in West Bengal.
