Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday criticized the opposition for what he termed as “disrupting parliamentary proceedings” and staging “drama” outside the House during the Winter Session. His remarks came after several INDIA bloc leaders held a protest accusing the government of shielding industrialist Gautam Adani.

“I am very distressed by the behaviour of opposition parties since the beginning of the Winter Session,” Rijiju said, according to ANI. “Important subjects, like bills and constitutional discussions, have always been handled through the Business Advisory Committee. So why is there protest by the Congress Party and their allies?”

The minister accused opposition members of engaging in theatrics rather than contributing to constructive discussions. “Why are they disrupting proceedings and creating drama outside Parliament by running around? Is this the way to run the House?” Rijiju remarked.

He further criticized the opposition for wearing black jackets with slogans like “Modi Adani Ek Hai” and “Adani Safe Hai” during their protest on Parliament premises. “They are raising issues that have no relevance to the government and running around in colourful clothes. I am very upset with the opposition parties,” he added.

The opposition, however, remained firm in its stance. Speaking during the protest, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of protecting Gautam Adani. “The Prime Minister cannot get an investigation done against Adani because it would mean probing himself,” Gandhi alleged.

The protests marked the first day of the Winter Session, with opposition leaders, including those from Congress and other INDIA bloc parties, intensifying demands for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into allegations against Adani Group.
