In a major breakthrough in the murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, the police arrested the key accused, Suresh Chandrakar, on Sunday night from Hyderabad. Suresh, a contractor, is believed to be the mastermind behind the brutal killing of Mukesh, who had been investigating alleged corruption in a ₹120-crore road construction project handled by the contractor.

Mukesh, who went missing on January 1, had been last seen in the company of individuals linked to Suresh, and his disappearance raised suspicions of foul play. His body was discovered in a septic tank on a property owned by the contractor on January 5, confirming the worst fears.

Reports suggest that Suresh had been hiding in the residence of his driver in Hyderabad, evading capture. The police were able to track him down after a detailed investigation, which involved reviewing footage from 200 CCTV cameras and tracing nearly 300 mobile numbers. Authorities also arrested Suresh’s wife in connection with the case, although the specifics of her involvement are yet to be fully disclosed.

On January 4, three individuals, including Ritesh Chandrakar, Suresh’s brother, were detained in relation to the investigation. Ritesh is also related to Mukesh, being his cousin. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with Suresh currently being interrogated for his role in the murder.
