In a significant development, the Karnataka Police are preparing to arrest former Chief Minister and BJP Central Parliamentary Board Member B.S. Yediyurappa in connection with a POCSO case. Sources have confirmed that an application has been submitted to the court to obtain a warrant against him.
The police presented the application on Wednesday before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM). Should the court grant the plea and issue an arrest warrant, the police will move forward with the arrest of Yediyurappa, sources indicated.
Yediyurappa, anticipating legal action, submitted a petition to the Karnataka High Court on Thursday seeking anticipatory bail. The High Court is yet to take up his petition for consideration.
This action follows the issuance of a non-bailable arrest warrant by a Bengaluru court against Yediyurappa. The warrant pertains to allegations made under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim’s mother, who passed away on May 26, had filed a case in March, accusing Yediyurappa of harassing her daughter during a visit to the former CM’s residence seeking assistance.
The legal pressure on Yediyurappa increased further when the victim’s brother filed a writ petition to the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday. He claimed that despite months passing since the complaint was filed, the police had not taken any substantial action against the veteran leader. The petition seeks immediate arrest and legal proceedings against Yediyurappa.
