A shocking family tragedy unfolded in Karnataka’s Dharwad after a 45-year-old doctor was allegedly murdered inside his apartment, while his eight-year-old son was found with multiple stab injuries. Police have detained the doctor’s wife, who is also a medical professional, as the investigation gathers pace.
The victim has been identified as Dr Kiran Honannavar, an anaesthetist. His son remains under treatment at a private hospital after being rescued in a critical condition.
Family Members Raised Alarm
According to police, relatives had been trying to contact Dr Honannavar since Tuesday night. Calls were reportedly answered by his wife, who allegedly told them that he was resting and later claimed he had gone to work.
When repeated attempts to reach him failed, family members visited the apartment on Wednesday evening. They allegedly discovered Dr Honannavar lying in a pool of blood, while the injured child was also found inside the flat.
Police officers rushed to the scene after neighbours alerted authorities.
Child Rescued Alive
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said officers immediately shifted the eight-year-old boy to hospital after noticing he was still alive.
The Commissioner said investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events and the time when the attack took place. “We are yet to ascertain during the investigation when exactly the child was attacked. Since he was still alive, we shifted him to the hospital immediately.”
Police Suspect No Outside Entry
According to the preliminary investigation, only the husband, wife and their son were present inside the sixth-floor apartment when the incident occurred.
Police said there is currently no indication that any outsider entered the residence. Investigators are examining phone records, witness statements and other evidence to establish what led to the alleged murder.
Commissioner Shashikumar said: “We will conduct a detailed investigation to determine what exactly happened, whom she spoke to, what she told them, and the sequence of events inside the apartment.”
