“Retract These Lies or Face Legal Action”: Rebel TMC MP’s Son Sends Notice to Mamata Banerjee Amid Party Turmoil

Fresh Legal Battle Deepens TMC’s Internal Crisis

The political turmoil within the Trinamool Congress has taken a dramatic new turn after Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, served a legal notice to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and several senior party leaders over statements allegedly linking him to a demand for an Assembly election ticket.

The notice comes at a time when the ruling party is battling one of its most serious internal rebellions, with a section of MPs openly challenging the leadership.

Dispute Over Assembly Ticket Allegations

Baidyanath, a psychiatrist by profession, has strongly denied claims that he sought a Trinamool nomination from the Barasat Assembly constituency. The legal notice alleges that remarks made by multiple party leaders created a false impression that he was denied a ticket and that the subsequent political rebellion was connected to that decision.

According to the notice, such statements have damaged his professional reputation and unfairly dragged a private citizen into an ongoing political conflict.

“Political Differences Should Not Target Family Members”

The controversy intensified after comments circulated publicly suggesting that Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had lobbied for an Assembly seat for her son.

Responding to those allegations, Baidyanath publicly rejected the claims and argued that political disagreements should remain confined to political leaders rather than extending to their family members.

He maintained that he never sought an election ticket and accused certain individuals of spreading misleading information about his role in the dispute.

Counterclaim Involving Political Consultants

The notice also presents a different version of events, claiming that representatives associated with a political consultancy working with the Trinamool Congress had approached Baidyanath and encouraged him to consider entering electoral politics.

According to the legal communication, he received multiple requests urging him to explore a possible candidature from the Barasat constituency. The document argues that this directly contradicts allegations that he actively pursued a ticket from the party.

Demand for Public Retraction and Apology

The legal notice calls on Mamata Banerjee and other leaders named in the communication to withdraw the alleged statements and issue a public clarification.

It sets a deadline for a response and warns that failure to comply could result in civil and criminal proceedings. The notice states that all legal options remain open if the requested clarification is not provided.

Political Fallout Continues

The development comes as tensions within the Trinamool Congress continue to escalate, with rebel MPs challenging the party leadership and organisational structure.

While the party leadership has not officially responded to the notice, the latest episode adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing crisis that has already triggered intense political debate both within West Bengal and at the national level.

As the standoff deepens, attention is now focused on whether the legal challenge will further widen the rift inside the Trinamool Congress or lead to fresh attempts at reconciliation.
