Srinagar: JSS Kupwara, Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship held meetings with the trainees at various locations across Kupwara district. The tag line for the meeting was “Say No to Drugs, and, Yes to Skill.”
It was decided to establish a “Production Cell” at district level for out-trainees of various trades. Under the Ministry of Skills Development and Industrialization, JSS-Kupwara is going to set up about 400 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of out-of-state users and trained persons near Kupwara district and convert them into production units.
Director JSS Kupwara, Muhammad Iqbal accompanied by a team of field officers visited different blocks of the district in which it was ordered to set up a production cell in the district. Large production units will be set up. These production units will provide breadwinners with employment avenues to these deserving people to meet their financial needs.
These production units will be set up in collaboration with various public and private institutions. The JSS-Kupwara District Administration especially thanked the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara and the Indian Army who have always cooperated in setting up such training centres.
This is the first time in the district that JSS-Kupwara has taken such an initiative for female trainees who have completed their training and provided them opportunities to earn their livelihood through these production units.
Muhammad Iqbal has also held meetings with the trainees at various places like Kanan Poshpura, Lolab, Maidanpura, Potoshai, Kralpura, Kalaros, Kupwara Town and at other places in the valley.
He added that it will be a wasteful practice if these beneficiaries are not provided with bread-and-butter opportunities after their training, they will be discouraged and they will be useless at home which leads to frustration and this is the main reason for drug abuse. The JSS-Kupwara is a project of the Central Government which is represented at the national level.
The JSS has 308 units across India and only 1 in the Kashmir division which is in Kupwara district. Out of these 308 units, JSS-Kupwara has a unique position which has been praised by the Prime Minister of India. The JSS-Kupwara is also working on two more pilot-based projects Skill Hub Initiative and SANKALP, where training in various trades will be provided.
Furthermore, JSS-Kupwara also provides training in various trades such as health, hospitality, crafts, self-employed tailors, electrical technicians, and domestic data entry operators. In the current session, 104 training centres were active.
These trainees were trained in 104 centres in the district. JSS stands with Kupwara slogan, say no to intoxication and yes to skill to reduce suicide rate and drug addiction for which skill development was the best therapy.
