Journalist Ajit Anjum Booked for Alleged Interference in Voter Roll Revision in Bihar’s Ballia

A case has been registered against senior journalist and YouTuber Ajit Anjum for allegedly disrupting electoral roll revision work and attempting to provoke communal sentiments during a visit to a polling booth in Ballia, Bihar. The incident occurred on July 12, when Anjum and his team reportedly entered a government facility without permission and began questioning the election officials present.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), filed by booth-level officer Mohammad Ansarul Haque, Anjum and his associates arrived at the Block Auditorium in Ballia, where electoral form entries were being uploaded. The journalist allegedly confronted the official about voter data, asked probing questions related to the number of Muslim voters, and caused disruption for nearly an hour.

Police stated that Anjum has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including criminal trespass, obstruction of public servant duties, and promoting communal disharmony, along with provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951. The FIR claims that Anjum and his team interfered in the process and falsely focused on claims that Muslim voters were being harassed.

The officer said all enumeration forms had been distributed and collected from the booth’s 1,020 voters and that the allegations made by the journalist were baseless and misleading.

In response, Ajit Anjum maintained that his reporting was done in the interest of transparency and electoral fairness. He said the video was carefully edited to avoid revealing sensitive personal data or identities and stood by his decision to highlight procedural lapses.
