Mumbai: Senior BJP leader and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday argued that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Maharashtra government has waived farm loan of 50 lakh farmers to the tune of 26,000 crore rupees till today. Speaking to newspersons here in Mumbai, Javadekar listed out the achievements of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led government in the last five years.

The Union I&B Minister said that besides waiving off the loans of farmers, the state government has disbursed Rs 6,000 each into the bank accounts of 53 lakh farmers. Javadekar stated eight lakh hectare of land has been brought under irrigation. The implementation of the Jalayukta Shivar Yojana in 22,000 villages has wiped out the scourge of water scarcity. Javadekar further disclosed that more than 4 lakh houses have been built under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Aawaas Yojana.

Javadekar’s clarification comes in the wake of the allegations made by Congress and NCP that the government has made the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir as its poll plank. Replying to a query that despite government waiving off farm loans, the farmers’ have been committing suicides, Javadekar said this has been happening in five districts of Vidarbha.

The Union I&B Minister said that the previous Congress-NCP government did not implement irrigation projects in the areas which are prone to farmers suicides. Moreover, there was a massive corruption to the tune of Rs 73,000 crore rupees in the irrigation projects. Javadekar said when the BJP is re-elected, after five years the pending irrigation projects will be a non-issue as the irrigation projects will be completed five years from now on.
