New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, on Sunday, focusing on recent regional developments. The call comes amid fresh diplomatic momentum in the Gulf region, including indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran, held in Muscat and mediated by Oman.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar shared, “Appreciate the telecon with FM @badralbusaidi of Oman today. Discussed recent regional developments.”

The dialogue gains significance as Oman once again plays a crucial mediating role in sensitive diplomatic engagements. According to Al Jazeera, the latest round of indirect talks between the US and Iran in Muscat was conducted in a “constructive atmosphere and based on mutual respect.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff led their respective delegations, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi acting as the chief facilitator.

This isn’t the first time the Indian and Omani foreign ministers have engaged closely this year. In February, Jaishankar and Albusaidi met in person to review the entire range of India-Oman relations. During that visit, the Indian Minister thanked Oman’s leadership for hosting the Indian Ocean Conference and for their consistent support in deepening bilateral cooperation.

A highlight of that February visit was the unveiling of a specially designed logo marking 70 years of India-Oman diplomatic ties, a milestone that will be commemorated in 2025. The logo, launched jointly by Jaishankar and Albusaidi, symbolises the deep-rooted connection between the two nations, grounded in shared history, culture, and vibrant people-to-people exchanges.

EAM Jaishankar also launched the book “Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman”—a publication by the Embassy of India in Muscat that explores the rich and enduring legacy of the Indian diaspora in Oman.
