Mumbai: It will be a direct contest between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (BSS) combine, BJP candidate Murjibhai Patel and Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (SSUBT)nominated candidate Rutuja Latke for the November 3 bypoll to the Andheri East Assembly constituency.

The BJP nominee Murjibhai Patel filed his nomination papers for the bypoll to the Andheri East Assembly constituency. The Eknath Shinde led Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena has decided to support Patel in this bypoll.

Patel was accompanied by senior BJP leaders Pravin Darekar, Kripashankar Singh, Deepak Kesarkar, Nitesh Rane, Dilip Mama Lande and others.

After having got the relief from the Bombay High Court in her resignation from the BMC service, SSUBT nominee Rutuja Latke accompanied by Yuva Sena president Aaditya Thackeray and others too filed her nomination papers. Both the sides staged a massive show of strength on Friday.

After the revolt staged by Eknath Shinde and others in late June this year against the Shiv Sena leadership and subsequent vertical split of the party, this is the first major election battle between the Uddhav Thackeray- led party and the alliance of BJP and Shinde’s political outfit.

Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has fielded Rutuja Latke, the widow of Ramesh Latke, who died in May this year. Latke, was the sitting Sena MLA from the Andheri East seat who died of heart attack in Dubai because of which the by-election was necessitated.

Meanwhile, after days of rambling, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has accepted the resignation of Rutuja Latke who was working as a clerk in the civic body. Latke had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court on October 12 seeking directions to the civic body to accept her resignation. Acting on the directions of the Bombay High Court, the BMC today issued the letter of acceptance of her resignation.
