Srinagar: The ending of a competition can never be better and fiercer unless the teams play their heart out and strive to save every defending point and score every attacking point. The same intensity of a final game was witnessed by everyone in the Inter-village Volleyball championship organised by Indian Army at Shumriyal.
A total of eight teams had participated in the event from the villages of Shumriyal, Gund-e-Jahangir, Cheerkut, Duniwari, Kanthpura, Khumriyal and Putshai. With the motto of serve strong, dig fierce and spike hard, the volleyball championship finally came to its end. After the initial tough matches between the eight teams, Khumriyal Lolab Tigers and Khumriyal Volleyball Club finally managed to sail.
The final between Khumriyal Volleyball club and Lolab Khumriyal Tigers was more intense and was much awaited as the presence of a huge crowd of 175 locals to include elders, women, children and students. The final was ultimately won by Khumriyal Lolab Tigers who defeated Khumriyal Volleyball club by 3-1.
The winners and the runners up were felicitated by the BDC Wavoora block, Mohammad Rafique Kataria and Sarpanch of Shumriyal, Parvez Peswal with the trophy, cash prize, medals and a volleyball each to both the teams. The BDC, Sarpanch, local people and the teams were extremely gratified and extended their sincere thanks to the army for such a great event.
