Mumbai: In a major aviation security scare, an IndiGo flight operating on the Kuwait–Hyderabad route was forced to perform an emergency diversion to Mumbai early Tuesday after authorities received a chilling bomb threat via email.
Flight 6E1234, carrying passengers from Kuwait to Hyderabad, landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) around morning hours, where it was immediately escorted to a remote, isolated bay as part of emergency security protocol.

The moment the aircraft touched down, a multi-agency response team, including the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), CISF, and airport emergency units, cordoned off the area. A comprehensive security sweep of the aircraft began, following established aviation safety guidelines.
Officials in both Mumbai and Hyderabad confirmed that the threat was communicated through an email claiming the presence of an explosive device on board the aircraft. The message triggered Level-3 aviation emergency protocol, one of the most stringent in Indian airports.
IndiGo Confirms Incident, Assures Passenger Safety
IndiGo later issued an official statement acknowledging the threat and confirming the diversion:
The airline said it “received a security threat” for flight 6E1234, following which the crew acted “as per protocol” and diverted the aircraft to Mumbai. It added that the airline is “fully cooperating with relevant authorities” who are conducting detailed checks before clearing the aircraft for further operations.
Reassuring passengers and their families, IndiGo said:
“As always, safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our topmost priorities.”
