India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, recently reiterated the country’s enduring struggle against cross-border terrorism, emphasizing the need for a resolute response to such threats. In a pointed reference to historical incidents and contemporary challenges, Jaishankar highlighted India’s steadfast stance against these issues, notably singling out the 26/11 attacks orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as a turning point.
During a media address, Jaishankar underscored the gravity of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, describing it as a watershed moment that brought into focus the urgent need to confront and counter terrorism effectively. “Terrorism began plaguing our nation at the time of independence, and the events of Mumbai 26/11 marked a tipping point,” he stated unequivocally.
Asserting the significance of a strong response to cross-border terrorism, Jaishankar emphasized the imperative of imposing costs on those perpetuating such acts. “If someone engages in cross-border terrorism, a robust response becomes the cornerstone of countering these threats. Turning the other cheek is not strategic nor aligns with the sentiments of our nation,” he elaborated.
Addressing the 3rd convocation of Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar, Jaishankar reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to combat terrorism. He acknowledged the long-standing challenge terrorism poses and highlighted the evolving landscape shaped by technological advancements.
“In our pursuit to delegitimize and counter terrorism, India remains resolute. The realm of terrorism is fueled by technological advancements, drawing immense energy from these innovations,” Jaishankar affirmed.
Expanding on India’s multifaceted approach to counterterrorism, the EAM articulated the nation’s willingness to extend support beyond its immediate borders. India’s engagement spans various realms, including bolstering security in neighboring regions and providing assistance in domains like finance, healthcare, and energy to nations across the Global South.
