In a major development that could impact air travel across India, four key civil airports operated by the Indian Air Force are set to undergo temporary shutdowns this year for runway repair and maintenance work.
Airports in Jodhpur, Srinagar, Pune, and Adampur Air Base will face disruptions at different times as authorities carry out recarpeting work.
Jodhpur Airport First to Shut
The first major closure will be at Jodhpur airport, which will remain shut from March 29 to April 27. Airlines like IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express have already stopped bookings beyond March 28, signalling significant travel disruption.
Srinagar to Face Phased Shutdown
Srinagar airport will experience staggered closures later this year. It is expected to remain shut on weekends from August to mid-October, followed by a complete shutdown from October 16 to November 5.
Pune and Adampur Also Affected
Pune airport is also scheduled for runway renovation, although exact dates are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Adampur Air Base in Punjab could face one of the longest closures, reportedly lasting up to eight months towards the end of the year.

These airports serve both civil and military purposes, requiring high-quality runway conditions to support fighter jets and defence aircraft. Regular maintenance is critical, especially given their strategic importance and proximity to sensitive border regions.
Airlines and Passengers Alerted
Authorities have already issued NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) for some closures, while airlines were informed in advance through the government’s slot coordination system.
Passengers are advised to check flight schedules and plan accordingly, as rerouting, cancellations, and delays are expected during the maintenance periods.
With multiple airports affected, travellers may face inconvenience, but officials say the upgrades are essential to ensure long-term safety and operational efficiency.
