Independent department to be set up for sanitation workers: Dhananjay Munde

Mumbai: The Social Justice and Special Assistance Minister, Dhananjay Munde in a meeting held in Mantralaya on Friday has said to set up an independent department to address various issues and problems faced by the sanitation workers.

The meeting was held to discuss the various issues and demands of the sanitation workers on Friday in Mantralaya.  Secretary in Department of Social Justice, Shyam Tagade,  Commissioner of Social Welfare,  Praveen Darade, Joint Secretary, Department of Social Justice, Dinesh Dingle, Representatives of various union of sanitation workers, Medical Education, Public Health, Urban Development.

“A proper decision would be taken by coordinating the report of the Lad-Page Committee and the current situation regarding the cleaners.  Special efforts will be made by the department to address the issues of workers’ shelter. Priority will be given to the inheritance rights of appointment of cleaning workers’. In case of appointment, the matter of educational qualification will be scrutinised”, said Munde.

Munde also said that he would make continuous efforts to uplift the socio-economic status of the cleaning workers.
