Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a short-term weather advisory for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, warning of moderate rainfall in isolated areas within the next three to four hours. The update, released early Friday morning, advises residents to be cautious while stepping out, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

Skies over the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the day. The IMD has predicted intermittent showers, especially during the second half of the day, with the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas if rainfall coincides with peak tidal activity.

In addition to rain alerts, tidal movements have also been tracked for public safety. A high tide of 3.33 metres is forecasted to hit Mumbai’s coastline at 6:18 pm, while earlier in the day a low tide of 2.51 metres was recorded at 12:36 pm. Another low tide of 1.59 metres is expected at 1:11 am on Saturday. Authorities have noted that combined rainfall and high tide could lead to temporary flooding in coastal or vulnerable pockets of the city.

Rainfall data collected between 8 am Thursday to 8 am Friday indicates that the Island City received 17 mm, eastern suburbs recorded 28 mm, and the western suburbs got 24 mm. Although the rainfall is not yet classified as heavy, officials remain watchful for any sudden escalation in intensity.
