“If You Behave Like Urban Naxals, You Will Be Arrested”: CM Fadnavis Responds to Raj Thackeray on Special Security Bill

Mumbai: Responding to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s remarks on the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill 2024, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday dismissed fears around the bill being used to suppress dissent.

“Whom should we arrest? This law has not been made for him (Raj Thackeray),” said Fadnavis, addressing the media. “If you behave like Urban Naxals, you will be arrested. If you do not act like Urban Naxals, there is no reason to arrest you.”

Clarifying the intent of the legislation, Fadnavis added, “This law is meant for those who act against the law. It is not a law against protestors. Everyone has complete freedom to speak against the government.”

The Chief Minister further suggested that misunderstandings about the bill are stemming from a lack of awareness. “Comments like these come only because people haven’t read the law,” he asserted.

Raj Thackeray had recently raised concerns over the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill 2024, claiming it could be misused to target dissenters and stifle democratic rights. His remarks sparked political debate across the state, especially from opposition parties and civil rights groups.
