New Delhi: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi delivered a powerful statement on Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that the swift 88-hour mission was only a “trailer” and signaling India’s readiness to respond decisively to any threat. Speaking to the media, he underscored that state-sponsored terrorism is a serious concern for India, a nation focused on growth and development.
“If Pakistan gives a chance, we will teach it how to behave responsibly with a neighbouring nation,” said General Dwivedi, reaffirming India’s resolve to deal firmly with threats while highlighting the country’s strategic preparedness.
On modern warfare, the Army Chief noted that conflicts today are multi-domain and unpredictable in duration. He stressed the importance of maintaining sufficient resources to sustain long-term operations and made it clear that India supports peaceful dialogue but will not tolerate terror.
“Talks and terror can’t go together. India will respond decisively to those who encourage or sponsor terrorism,” he added, underlining that terrorists and their backers would be treated with equal resolve.
General Dwivedi also addressed India-China border developments, pointing out significant improvements over the past year. Discussions between the countries’ leadership have led to positive steps, with increased dialogue along the border benefiting both sides.
Turning to Jammu and Kashmir, the Army Chief highlighted the region’s transformation since August 5, 2019. He noted that local residents are eager to travel, participate in national opportunities, and contribute positively to the state’s growth. “India wants to strengthen its connection with the region,” he said.
On the security front, General Dwivedi reported a sharp decline in terrorism, with 31 militants neutralised, including 21 from Pakistan. He highlighted that despite isolated incidents like Pahalgam, the Amarnath Yatra saw a strong turnout, and stone-pelting incidents have stopped entirely.
The Army Chief also spoke on development and education in Kashmir, noting the rapid expansion of schools, colleges, IITs, and IIMs. He concluded that India’s deterrence is effective, the attraction towards the nation is growing, and the influence of external elements, including Pakistan, is steadily declining.
“Positive changes are taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. The region is increasingly integrating with India, and security, education, and development are transforming lives,” General Dwivedi said, reflecting confidence in India’s defence and strategic strength.
