Mumbai: In what now has assumed retaliatory response to Enforcement Directorate (ED) notices to Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders and their kin, the ruling Shiv Sena led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by initiating probes from Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai police against BJP leaders Prasad Lad and Girish Mahajan.
In the recent past ED has sent notices to Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik and his son in a money laundering case, Varsha Raut wife of Sena leader Sanjay Raut in the PMC bank case, in September 2019 against NCP chief Sharad Pawar in the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) case and against former BJP leader, now NCP leader Eknath Khadse in the MIDC land deal case.
The EOW has issued summons to BJP MLC Prasad Lad in an 11 year old economic offence committed in the Sena ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Sources disclosed that the notice was sent to Lad almost 20 days ago. Lad is considered to be close to former BJP chief minister and leader of opposition in Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis. The alleged offence against Lad dates back to 2009, but the case was reportedly registered against him only in 2014.

In another incident Kothrud police in Pune has registered a case against senior BJP leader Girish Mahajan. The Kothrud police have registered a case against Mahajan for allegedly locking up and beating up director of Jalgaon Jilha (district) Vidya Prasarak Mandal.
Earlier, reacting to the ED notice served on him, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had remarked that he was not at all surprised by it. After ED served notice on Varsha Raut, angry Sena leaders put up banners at ED office in South Mumbai terming as BJP party headquarters.
