Dublin: For the first time in the 76 years of India–Ireland diplomatic relations, the Embassy of India in Dublin organised an exclusive cultural event dedicated to a North-Eastern state of India — Assam.

The landmark evening, part of the Embassy’s State Cultural Event Series, showcased Assam’s rich heritage — from its history, cuisine, tourism, and traditional dances to poetry recitals and its world-renowned textiles and crafts.

Addressing the gathering, H.E. Akhilesh Mishra, Ambassador of India to Ireland, lauded the contributions of the vibrant Assamese community in Ireland and emphasised the importance of celebrating India’s diverse cultures as a means to foster unity and mutual understanding.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Assam Association of Ireland, led by Diganta Malakar, and was warmly received by the diaspora and friends of India alike.

This initiative carries a powerful message to the Indian diaspora, especially the North-Eastern communities, many of whom have long felt under-represented. By celebrating their unique identity, the event not only inspired pride among Assamese and North-Eastern communities worldwide but also highlighted India’s incredible cultural diversity on the global stage.
