Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Saturday announced the first set of departmental allocations following the induction of Sunetra Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister. Governor Acharya Devvrat formally approved the portfolio distribution, outlining the responsibilities assigned to the newly sworn-in leader.

According to the official notification, Sunetra Pawar will handle the Excise Department, along with the Sports and Youth Welfare portfolio. In addition, she has been given charge of the Minorities Development and Aukaf Department, marking her entry into key administrative areas of the state government.

Sunetra Pawar recently took oath as Maharashtra’s first woman Deputy Chief Minister, a move that came days after the tragic death of her husband and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar. Her elevation is being viewed as both a historic and stabilising step within the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

Meanwhile, the crucial Finance Department, which was earlier overseen by Ajit Pawar, has now been retained by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
