Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Monday made a public appeal to his nephew, Prajwal Revanna, urging him to return to India and uphold the family’s dignity by cooperating with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating a sex scandal case.
Prajwal Revanna, 33, fled to Germany after several videos allegedly showing him sexually abusing women began circulating just before the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26. Facing an arrest warrant, Prajwal was the joint candidate of JD(S) and BJP from Hassan.
“Come back to India. Save our family’s dignity. Please appear and cooperate with the SIT investigation. If you have not made any mistake, why fear?” Kumaraswamy pleaded, addressing the suspended JD(S) leader.
Kumaraswamy emphasized the limited interaction between his and his brother HD Revanna’s families, stating, “I met my brother HD Revanna and his family only during special occasions and festivals. Otherwise, we know nothing about each other’s business.”
The Congress-led state government has constituted an SIT to probe the scandal. However, the BJP and JD(S) — both part of the NDA — have called for the case to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), demanding action against those responsible for distributing the explicit videos.
Kumaraswamy also alleged that the phones of his family members were being tapped by the government, a claim Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has denied.
As the investigation unfolds, the return of Prajwal Revanna and his cooperation with the SIT could be pivotal in resolving the case and restoring the family’s reputation amidst the political turmoil.
