Makar Sankranti is being celebrated as the festival of kite flying in Gujarat. Due to Covid19 related restrictions and cases of bird flu in some parts of the state, the festivity is a low key affair. AIR correspondent reports, Gujarat government has already announced a series of restrictions on kite flying at public places and in groups. The people have been asked to enjoy the festival from their home with their close family members. They have been asked to follow all Covid related protocols even during the festival.
On the other hand, the state government has launched Karuna Abhiyan- to save and treat the birds being injured due to string of kites. Gujarat government has already banned the sale and use of Chinese string which causes maximum injuries to the birds.
Health workers of the Animal Husbandry department and volunteers of Karuna Abhiyan have been asked to take maximum care during the treatment of injured birds due to bird flu cases in some districts. Official sources said that more than 50 thousand birds and animals have been saved in Karuna Abhiyan till now.
