Gujarat Local Body Poll Results 2026: BJP Sweeps All 15 Municipal Corporations, Registers Massive Wins Across Gujarat

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has delivered a commanding performance in the 2026 Gujarat local body elections, sweeping all 15 municipal corporations and posting decisive victories across several district and taluka panchayats, reaffirming its political dominance in the state ahead of next year’s Assembly elections.

As counting progressed across Gujarat on Tuesday, the ruling party surged ahead in major urban centres while also consolidating its lead in rural local bodies, leaving the opposition parties trailing far behind.

The elections covered 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats, making it one of Gujarat’s biggest grassroots electoral exercises in recent years.

Massive Victory In Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation

One of the BJP’s most significant victories came in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, where the party won 160 out of 192 seats, once again demonstrating its overwhelming support in Gujarat’s largest city.

The Congress secured 32 seats, while other parties failed to make a significant impact in the city corporation elections.

Ahmedabad recorded a voter turnout of 51.81 per cent, reflecting moderate urban participation.

BJP Tightens Grip Across Amreli District

The BJP also posted an impressive performance in Amreli district, winning 31 out of 34 seats in the district panchayat, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to secure two seats and the Congress won one seat.

In the Amreli Taluka Panchayat, BJP won 16 of 18 seats, while Congress and AAP won one seat each.

The party maintained a strong edge in several talukas including Babra, Jafrabad, Khambha, Kunkavav-Wadiya, Lathi and Rajula, strengthening its hold in the district.

However, AAP made gains in Bagasara Taluka Panchayat, winning 10 out of 16 seats, while Congress emerged ahead in Liliya Taluka Panchayat with 9 seats, showing isolated pockets of opposition strength.

Polling Covered Over 9,000 Seats Across Gujarat

The local body elections were conducted for nearly 9,200 seats across Gujarat, with more than 4.18 crore eligible voters participating in the electoral process.

The scale of the polls made it one of the most significant political tests in the state before the Assembly elections scheduled next year.

The vote counting began at 9 am on Tuesday under tight security arrangements at designated centres across the state.

Nine New Municipal Corporations Voted For First Time

This election marked the first civic polls in nine newly created municipal corporations, including Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar and Surendranagar.

The BJP’s success in these newly formed civic bodies has further expanded its urban governance footprint in Gujarat.

Winning in these new corporations is being viewed as a major strategic boost for the ruling party.

Urban And Rural Voter Turnout Remains Strong

According to data released by the State Election Commission, the voter turnout stood at 55.1 per cent in municipal corporations, while municipalities recorded 65.53 per cent turnout.

Participation was even higher in rural areas, with 66.64 per cent turnout in district panchayats and 67.26 per cent in taluka panchayats, indicating stronger grassroots engagement outside urban centres.

The higher rural turnout played a key role in shaping the electoral outcome across panchayat bodies.

Opposition Fails To Challenge BJP Surge

The elections saw a contest mainly between the BJP, Congress and AAP, with AIMIM also contesting in select areas.

Despite campaigning efforts by opposition parties, the BJP’s organisational machinery and strong voter base proved too powerful, allowing the party to sweep urban centres and dominate most rural local bodies.

While Congress and AAP managed to win scattered seats in a few districts, neither could mount a serious statewide challenge to the BJP.

Big Political Message Ahead Of Assembly Elections

The Gujarat local body poll results are being seen as a major morale booster for the BJP ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections.

By sweeping all 15 municipal corporations and maintaining a commanding presence in district and taluka panchayats, the BJP has sent a clear signal of continued political strength in Gujarat.
