Lucknow: A political war of words erupted on Monday after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a sharp swipe at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s push for using cow dung-based paint in government buildings, dubbing the move “Gobarnama”.

Taking to social media platform X, Yadav posted a sarcastic one-liner: “Gobarnama: BJP government’s new feat.” He also shared an image of CM Yogi with the latter’s quote — “cow dung-based paint should be used in government buildings” — printed across it.

The criticism came in response to Chief Minister Adityanath’s directive issued on Sunday during a departmental review meeting. While evaluating the functioning of the animal husbandry and dairy development department, Adityanath advocated for innovation and investment in natural products derived from cattle resources.

“Concrete steps should be taken to make the cow protection centres self-reliant. Cow dung-based natural paint should be used in government buildings, along with scaling up its production,” Yogi said, as per an official statement. He also emphasised on using advanced technology to enhance efficiency in the sector.

Reacting to Yadav’s jibe, BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi fired back, saying, “The Samajwadi Party chief hates cow dung and cattle. His comments show a lack of respect for traditional values and rural innovation.”
