Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA in Goa merged with Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) on Monday. NCP lone MLA Churchill Alemao met Speaker Rajesh Patnekar informing him that he had merged the Goa legislative wing into Trinamool Congress Party.
“Why should I resign as MLA? I continue to be MLA. I have merged the party’s legislative wing into TMC,” Alemao told reporters after meeting Speaker of legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar.
He said that being a lone MLA, he is hundred percent of the legislative wing and hence the merger is valid as per the tenth schedule of the Indian constitution.
Churchill Alemao will formally join the TMC later during the day in presence of party chief Mamata Banerjee.
