Family Alleges Delay in Medical Assistance Led to Death
A 22-year-old man died in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad after sustaining severe injuries outside a police Pink Booth, with his family alleging that he remained without timely medical assistance for nearly 40 minutes despite repeatedly seeking help.
The deceased, identified as Rajkumar, was a native of Siwan district in Bihar. The incident occurred on July 12 and has sparked demands for an independent inquiry into the police response.
Dispute With Auto Driver Ended in Tragedy, Family Claims
According to the family’s complaint, Rajkumar became involved in an argument with an auto-rickshaw driver over the fare. As the dispute escalated, he allegedly ran towards a nearby police Pink Booth hoping to seek protection.
The family claimed the booth was shut, and Rajkumar repeatedly knocked on its glass door in an attempt to alert police personnel.
During the incident, the glass allegedly shattered, causing deep injuries to his hands and resulting in heavy blood loss.
Videos Surface as Family Accuses Police of Negligence
The family alleged that despite his condition, Rajkumar remained outside the booth for around 40 minutes before he was finally shifted to a hospital by ambulance.
Doctors later declared him dead.
Several videos circulating on social media appear to show an injured man lying outside the Pink Booth while bystanders gather around. The authenticity of the videos has not been independently verified.
The family has accused the police of negligence and demanded strict action against those responsible, alleging that timely medical intervention could have saved his life.
Police Present Different Version of Events
Ghaziabad Police have disputed the family’s allegations.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Upasana Pandey said preliminary findings suggest that both Rajkumar and the auto-rickshaw driver were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when an argument broke out over a financial dispute before reaching the Pink Booth.
Police stated that Rajkumar was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he later died.
Meanwhile, DCP City Dhawal Jaiswal said a special investigation team has been constituted to examine the complete sequence of events, including the police response, the timeline of medical assistance and the viral videos linked to the incident.
The inquiry is underway, and authorities have said further action will be taken based on its findings.
