Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events inside one of Uttar Pradesh’s most widely discussed criminal cases, Muskan — currently lodged in Meerut jail for the alleged murder of her husband — gave birth to a baby girl on Monday evening at the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College Hospital.
Muskan was shifted from the jail to the medical college at around 11:30 pm on Sunday after her labour pains increased. The delivery was conducted normally, with doctors confirming that both mother and child were stable.
Dr. Shakun Singh, Head of the Obstetrics Department, said the newborn weighed 2.4 kilogrammes, and medical staff kept Muskan under continuous monitoring throughout the day. Given the sensitivity of the case, security was stepped up around the hospital’s entrance and maternity ward to prevent any disturbance.
Jail officials revealed that although Muskan’s family was informed, no family member arrived at the hospital to see her or the newborn.
Muskan’s entry into motherhood comes even as she remains at the centre of a chilling murder investigation. She and her alleged partner, Sahil Shukla, were arrested on March 18 for the brutal killing of her husband, Saurabh Rajput, in Meerut’s Indiranagar on March 4.
Police allege the duo drugged Saurabh before stabbing him to death. Investigators believe Muskan had begun plotting the murder as early as November 2023. The case took an even darker turn when the accused were found to have dismembered the body — severing the head and hands — and hiding the remains inside a blue drum filled with cement.
The pair was arrested soon after they attempted to flee to Himachal Pradesh. Police sources later revealed that the original plan involved disposing of the body inside a suitcase, where a bone fragment was also reportedly discovered.
