Kolkata: Just days after violent clashes rocked Murshidabad, fresh unrest erupted in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas on Monday as supporters of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) clashed with police in the Bhangar area during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Several people, including police personnel and protesters, were reported injured in the incident.
According to local sources, the protest was part of a larger mobilisation by the ISF against what it terms the “unjust and unconstitutional” provisions of the amended Waqf Act. Tensions began simmering early in the day as hundreds of ISF supporters gathered in Bhangar, raising slogans and demanding the withdrawal of the new provisions.
