Jaipur: Former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has applied for his entitled pension as a former member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, with the Assembly Secretariat confirming that the process for approval is underway.

Dhankhar, who stepped down from the Vice Presidency earlier this month, had served as an MLA from the Kishangarh constituency in Ajmer district between 1993 and 1998 on a Congress ticket. During his tenure, he was also a member of the Assembly’s Rules Committee from 1994 to 1997.

Under state rules, every former MLA is entitled to a monthly pension of ₹35,000, with additional increments based on age. Since Dhankhar is 74 years old, he qualifies for a 20% age-related increase, bringing his monthly pension to around ₹42,000. Once he turns 80, this amount will further rise by 30% in line with pension regulations.

Confirming the development, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani said Dhankhar’s application had been received and that formalities are in progress. The pension will begin once the approval is finalized.

Dhankhar’s political journey has been long and varied. Apart from serving in the Rajasthan Assembly, he has also been a Lok Sabha MP and held ministerial positions at the Centre.
